Who Records Greenup Arrests
Greenup Police Department works out of Village Hall, per the official Village Hall page. When its officers make the arrest, that office holds the incident report. A booking record exists only if the person reaches Cumberland County Jail. Then the Sheriff's Department opens its own file. Neither record replaces the other.
Greenup ranks second among Cumberland County's incorporated places, counting 1,365 residents in the 2020 Census. That figure fixes which city page applies. It says nothing about arrest volume. Deputies and state troopers work here too. So ask each office for the arresting agency and booking destination, since an arrest can end at a citation or release and never touch the county jail.
Where Greenup Arrests Are Published
The village publishes no arrest log or daily bulletin. No searchable roster or booking-photo feed exists at the county level either. Cumberland County offers no public booking window. Go straight to the record-holding offices before regional news or old private archives.
| Source | Role | Authority and photo limits |
|---|---|---|
| Greenup Police Department | City incident and arrest reports | Official; request any maintained, releasable image |
| Cumberland County Sheriff | County-jail receipt and custody events | Official; no online photo policy found |
| Circuit Clerk / Judici | Case and disposition follow-through | Officially linked court route; not a photo feed |
| Effingham Radio | Selected regional blotter items | News source, not a full Greenup log |
| Mugshots.com | Old Cumberland archive with Greenup labels | Unofficial, possibly stale, never proof of custody or guilt |
RecentlyBooked, BustedNewspaper, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone show no Greenup-local pages. Out-of-county results do not count. Even a properly labeled private archive can leave out a release, a dismissal, or later court action.
Find Someone Arrested in Greenup
Tracking a Greenup arrest often means contacting two agencies. City police write the report, and the county jail holds the booking when the person goes there. Keep the incident date and exact spelling ready. When you are unsure which office acted, ask each what it can confirm instead of reading a no-result as final.
- Call Greenup Police at (217) 923-5555 for police routing and ask whether city officers handled the incident.
- Ask whether the person was released, transferred, or delivered to Cumberland County Jail.
- Contact the Cumberland County Sheriff at (217) 849-2571 for a current county-custody inquiry when jail receipt is possible.
- Request the city arrest report and county booking record separately, giving a narrow date range and known identifiers.
- Follow any filed charge through the Fifth Judicial Circuit's Cumberland page and verify the result with the Circuit Clerk.
Custody status is a snapshot. It is not an arrest history. A person may be free while the municipal report and court case still exist. State sentences move the person into the IDOC system, and federal or immigration custody runs through separate federal databases.
Note: “Not currently held” means only that the county does not confirm present custody; it does not erase an earlier arrest or transfer.
Greenup Police FOIA Route
The official Greenup Police FOIA waiver form places the department at Village Hall. It also lists its phone, fax, and email. It covers fee waivers tied to public benefit, health, safety, or legal rights. It is not a full fee schedule. It also promises no booking photo. One may not exist, or it may not be releasable.
File a precise Illinois FOIA request. Give the name, date, and location. Add a report number if known, and name the exact records sought. Good wording requests the incident or arrest report. It can also seek any photograph from that arrest "if maintained and releasable." Ask for electronic copies. Request a cited exemption if anything is withheld. Illinois law generally sets a five-business-day response window, subject to extensions and exemptions.

The Village of Greenup contact page lists Village Hall at (217) 923-3401. Its email is clerk@villageofgreenup.com. Village Hall hours run Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those are administrative hours. They do not promise records turnaround. Keep the clerk's line separate from the police number.
Greenup Arrests at County Jail
The county jail books only those delivered there. Cumberland County publishes no roster, blotter, or booking-photo portal. No refresh interval or roll-off rule is posted either, so a web search cannot replace direct confirmation with the Sheriff's Department.
| Status | Record holder to try | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Just arrested | Greenup Police or arresting agency | The person may not yet have entered county custody |
| Received at jail | Cumberland County Sheriff | A county receipt or booking event may exist |
| Released or transferred | Sheriff plus court | Current custody may end while records remain |
| Case filed | Circuit Clerk / Judici | The court record supplies later action and disposition |
Ask the sheriff for the booking date and time. Also request the booking number if kept, the arresting agency, charges as booked, any discharge or transfer, and a photograph if one exists and can be released. No local booking-photo fee is published. Ask for electronic delivery and confirm any charge under Illinois FOIA rather than assuming the record is free.
Greenup Arrest News Is Selective
Effingham Radio's recurring police blotter sometimes mentions Cumberland County warrants or trips to the county jail. The weekday posts cover a whole region. They are not a complete list of Greenup recent arrests. A missing item proves nothing about local police activity.
An old Mugshots.com Cumberland archive reportedly carries Greenup labels. It is unofficial. It can keep showing a charge long after release or case resolution. The village keeps no mugshot page.
For a longer span than a phone call covers, the Cumberland Arrest Reports process explains the missing official multi-day feed and the records-request fallback. News adds color. Official records and the final court disposition still carry the reliable chronology.
Greenup Booking Photos and Courts
Greenup and Cumberland County post no public booking-photo policy. That means a request has to go straight to the offices that handle arrests. Ask city officials. Find out whether a photo exists for the arrest in question. Ask the sheriff's office separately. That office can say whether a booking photograph was made once the jail received the person. Illinois arrest-report law mentions a photograph "when and if available." That phrasing stops short of promising anyone an unredacted image.
For court follow-through, the Fifth Judicial Circuit page connects to the public Judici search. The circuit itself cautions users. Verify what you find there. The Cumberland County Circuit Clerk takes calls at (217) 849-3601. Court records show how a charge was dismissed, amended, or adjudicated after the arrest.
